Lesson Plan – Monsters in My Head: Otani Workshop. A Grade 9 or 10 unit that works upper grades as well. The project involves creating both a 2-D mixed media work with acrylic paint and oil pastel, as well as a ceramic sculpture, inspired the work of contemporary Japanese artist, Otani Workshop, and his “Monsters in My Head” exhibit at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Through an Opening. A graduation level drawing or painting unit that has students telling a story by revealing a scene through some sort of opening, such as a hole in a fence, a keyhole, a window, etc.
Put Yourself in the Picture. A Graduation level project that involves choosing a body part to incorporate into an image to tell a story, communicate an idea, capture an emotion… This project involves lots of Choice and Voice.
